The African Male Lion

A typical mature male lion stands 4 feet tall

at the shoulder and weighs an averages

5 to 8 feet in height and weighs 330 to

550 pounds.

Lioness

The female lion averages 4 to 5 feet in height

and weighs 265 to 395 pounds.

Territory

The lion is found throughout the south Sahara desert

and in parts of southern or eastern Africa.

Lion Cubs

Cubs are born blind,

 weighing 3 to 4 pounds,

 with a soft wooly

 greyish-yellow or pale

 brown coat, marked with

 spots or stripes.

A Pride of Lions

Lions are the only cats that live in large

 family groups. Each pride differs in size

and formation, but a typical pride consists

 of two males and seven females and a

 variable number of cubs.
