Beyond the Word Search

If you like to use word searches there is a way to add a little techcitement to the task.

Use the table function in word to construct your table (detailed instructions on making a table can be found in the 
  HOW TO: section). You can save your search on a disk. Have the students open the disk, and save it in their name.

Next have them highlight the words they are searching for, and change the font color, or bold the letters or italicize. When they are done simply save to an assignment folder on your desktop, or in their own electronic portfolio.

HOW TO:

First the TABLE...go to Table, insert.
A small box opens up asking you how big you want your table...you can do an 6 by 6 for younger students and a 20 by 20 for older students, the task is the same the content changes!

Next click on OK and your table appears...
When you move your cursor over the lines a double arrow appears allowing you to size your table.
To make sure they are all the same size, click on the top right corner and drag to the bottom left to highlight.


Go to TABLE...Distribute Rows and Columns Evenly OR RIGHT CLICK...and the same menu appears.

P.S. This is also a good time to set your font style, size and color and also change the cell border color or width.

Step Three...Now you are ready to add your vocabulary. Press the CAPS LOCK key, as you enter each letter move around the table using the arrow keys at the bottom left of the keyboard.

When you have all of the terms in, just fill in the rest of the table and save.

EXTRAS: You can add a hyperlink to a web page that will give extra information about the terms so the students can give you the definition for each search term you ask him to find.
